The Xbox One sold 2 million units in 13 countries over an 18-day period, according to a blog post from Microsoft on Wednesday.
The Xbox Wire post provides more details, reporting that consumers purchased an average of 111,111 consoles per day. It added that Xbox One consoles have been used to watch TV, play games and open apps for 83 million hours since its Nov. 22 launch. read more after the cut....


Microsoft also revealed that at peak demand, customers were ordering 1,000 Xbox One consoles per second on Amazon, according to John Love, the director of video games at Amazon. The Xbox One retails for $500.
This is a much stronger launch than its predecessor, the Xbox 360, which sold 326,000 units in its first eight days on sale, though the NPD data only accounts for North America.
Sony announced its PlayStation 4 had sold 2.1 million units as of Dec. 3. That console went on sale on Nov. 15 in North America and Nov. 29 in Europe and Australia.
